A guy who does not think weight is an issue obviously never had to walk that far, or must be in the ultimate shape. I have seen Triathletes trim material off their shorts and shoes to save every little of fraction of an ounce.

I did NOT use a washing machine, i used a dishwasher. There’s a big difference. A washing machine would have completely immersed the stock in water, and then had the agitator (the tower with paddles in the middle) beat the water. I have never tried this method, nor would I reccomend it. The wood is softer and more pliable when wet, and a washing machine agitator *might* cause damage to the stock. Use your DISH WASHER MACHINE Squeeze it in and run it on normal setting. I don’t use the heated dry for fear that the heat may cause undesirable warping of the wood. Keep an eye on the machine, and when it finishes its last wash cycle, take the stock out, place it on a stable, flat surface and let it air dry. It should be dry in less than half an hour. I then use 1000 grit sandpaper and 0000 steel wool to smooth the wood, followed by a few coats of Boiled linseed oil. I have done my M14 Scope Mounts stock and now my CMP Garand stock using this method. Chicom M14 Scope Mountss are $800 or so, not sure what you value your AR at. However, the chicom M14 Scope Mountss excellent rifles. They are forged, not cast, and the oprods are top notch. The bullshit you read on the internet about bolts and headspace only apply to the first batch of rifles imported, and you can get spare bolts for cheap from Marstar. I’d rather have a Norinco or Polytech M14 Scope Mounts than an M1A Scope Mounts any day.

Probably be too big…I have a friend who is roughly that size. Height-wise, it was fine. But it wouldn’t cinch down tight enough. Here’s what he wrote when I asked his size:

I am 6-3 and 180 lbs. As for chest size…..not sure but I’m pretty thin there too. My waist is 34 or 36 and my chest is close to that.

If I had soft armor on I could have fit the vest.

So there you have it.

Well thank you TimW for the honest reply.

I am playing around with the idea of buying a plate carrier now that I know plates are not toooo expensive. I was under the assumption that plates alone were in the $1000 range.

Currently for my gear set up I have x2 TT 5.56 Triple Mag Panel, x2 5.56/.223 Single Mag Pouch, HSGI Blowout Pouch, and a HSGI Mini Modular Radio pouch. Am I going to run into problems fitting all of that onto a plate carrier?

Right now the AR10 is a nice temporary solution, might even be “THE” solution for the next 20 years. When you spend $250.00 for a scope mount, it damn well be the one you needed, especially when you called and spoke to their rep before ordering. If you could warn your readers, I think it would be a great service to them. Perhaps ask David to do the same. The story is in the below email stream. The picture of my rife, scope mount and scope fitted and bore-sighted attached. As you can see, it has to go all the way up to the turret to get a decent eye relief. Also, I had to crank it all the way up to get it bore-sighted for 100 yards, leaving no more elevation for greater distances. Before anyone buys a quick disconnect sight from LaRue Tactical, they better know [...]

I do believe the Army can take the time to correct the complaints fostered with their SAGE stocked rifles, they are correctable, but training and leadership are not what they should be and all too often the brass accepts the complaints from line grunts and choose to drop the weapon system rather than provide the proper training the soldiers need to use and maintain the weapon system effectively. Oh and yes, the Marines are much better at training their shooters. ETA: when it comes to parts for the M14 Scope Mounts rifle system, remember you are competeing with Uncle Deep Pockets. New parts are being made but the manufacturers know if they can set a profitable price with Uncle Your Tax Dollars at Work, that price will carry over to the civilian market.
